The Ministry organizes a congress to discuss the CAP post-2020
The Secretary General of Agriculture and Food, Fernando Miranda, together with the Minister of Environment and Rural, Agrarian Policies and Territory of the Junta de Extremadura, Begoña García, will inaugurate the Congress on “The green architecture of the CAP post 2020. Deepening in eco-schemas “, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, will be held from May 29 to 31 at the Zafra Theater (Badajoz), where more than 170 participants from 16 Member States will gather.
A forum whose celebration in Spain already announced the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas, in the Council of Ministers of the EU last April, with the aim of “sharing experiences and contributions in the process already started of the Strategic Plan “.
In the planned work sessions, the green architecture of the CAP will be deepened, understood as the set of measures related to the climate and the environment, analyzing the important opportunities that this green architecture brings to agriculture and livestock, as well as the challenges that pose the different elements that make up such as conditionality, eco-schemes or agri-environmental and climate interventions.
At a time when the different Member States take the first steps to address the development of their strategic plans, this Congress raises the debate between partners and community institutions on climate and environmental issues.
To this end, it will have the participation of the European Commission, both the General Directorate of Agriculture and the General Directorate for the Environment; of the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development of different Member States, as well as with the contributions of universities and research centers, both national and European, and representatives of the agricultural professional organizations and conservation organizations.
The Conference will also focus on the analysis of “eco-schemes”, since they constitute a new instrument that will allow a greater environmental effort to be rewarded by farmers, ranchers and foresters. In this regard, the representation of more than 17 Member States interested in the development of future eco-schemes and their impact on European and Mediterranean agriculture is expected.
Thematic blocks
Throughout the two days of the Congress will address different issues related to agricultural and environmental issues, grouped into two large blocks.
The first thematic block will deal with the environmental challenge and general vision of the new “green architecture” in the CAP from the perspective of the European institutions, with the participation of the European Commission, the Presidency of the Council of the EU (both the Romanian Presidency, which ends its mandate in June, as the incoming Finnish Presidency), as well as the vision from the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.
Afterwards, the Mediterranean environmental reality will be deepened, exposing the particularities of our agriculture through the vision of the main exponents of Mediterranean agriculture, a region especially affected by the consequences of climate change.
The second block will present experiences and success stories in the Mediterranean systems, with the participation of several national and international research centers focused on the study of Mediterranean crops, and other organizations related to the agricultural sector, which, as Through thematic talks, they will present successful experiences to improve the adaptation of agriculture to environmental changes, the improvement of the use of resources or the enhancement of biodiversity on farms.
There will also be a practical part, through visits to farms located in the area, which reflect the reality of Mediterranean production, where you can see, on the ground, various ongoing initiatives that can serve as a basis for design of future eco-schemes.
