The Mediterranean Diet lands in Japan with the international symposium
The symposium organized by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ICCJ) “MeDiet Japan” is a major international event at its first edition, dedicated to the Mediterranean Diet and healthy lifestyle held online on Thursday 18 and Friday 19 November 2021 from the ICCJ Tokyo office.
Two days interspersed with panel discussions, video interviews, and live talks. The event will bring together some of the most important international names involved in the research and promotion of the Mediterranean diet, experts in the fields of medicine, nutrition, sport, cuisine, and lifestyle, for a discussion on the state of the art with a special focus on Japan and its culinary cultures.
Important guests will include the Olympic medallists Vanessa Ferrari, Carolina Kostner, and Yuki Kawauchi.
“I am glad to join the first edition of the MeDiet Japan symposium. As a sportswoman and an Italian, the Mediterranean Diet has been my way of eating since I was a child and I believe it is important to allow the Japanese public to get to know it and its benefits,” says Vanessa Ferrari.
“Thanks to the UNESCO listing, awareness of the Mediterranean Diet’s value has increased around the world, acknowledged for its beneficial effects on the health and prevention of major contemporary diseases. In recent decades, its popularity has grown steadily in Japan and Asia, along with the demand for Mediterranean products. However, as a dietary habit it is still poorly assimilated by the Asian population,” said Davide Fantoni, General Manager of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Japan.
The Symposium, in addition to promoting healthy eating habits, aims at comparing the Mediterranean diet and the Japanese diet, considered among the healthiest in the world.
MeDiet Japan is a website that answers questions about the Mediterranean diet, divided into 4 macro categories, MeHealth, MeCulture, MeLifestyle, and MeKitchen. Through video-recorded interviews, experts answer questions concerning good eating habits and healthy, sustainable lifestyles.
MeDiet Japan is also a live event: on November 19, from 6:15 am to 10:30 am (GMT time), 20 experts will discuss how to improve the quality of life from different perspectives.
