The food and beverage production grows to 93.238 million euros
The Food and Beverage sector doubled its level of activity in the last decade and going from 13.7% to 22.5% of the manufacturing industry. 2014 represents the consolidation of the economic recovery, a recovery that has also been reflected in the industry of food and beverages, which has experienced a much more favorable in variables such as output, employment and exports evolution.
Thus, in real terms, the sector’s output increased 3.8% in 2014, which translates into 93.238 million euros, almost double the figure recorded by the manufacturing industry.
So it sets out in the FIAB Annual Economic Report for 2014, which was presented today by the Director General of the Federation, Mauricio Garcia de Quevedo, who was accompanied by Joaquín Maudos, Professor of Economic Analysis at the University Valencia, and Roberto García Torrente, director of Business and Cooperative Agro Cajamar, sponsor of this report by the Valencian Institute of Economic Research (IVIE).
In nominal terms, the sector has experienced a growth of 1.94% over 2013. On the other hand, in terms of value added, the food and beverage industry has continued to gain weight in industry and the economy, and It has almost double its level of activity in the last thirteen years, rising from 13.7% of the manufacturing industry in 2000 to 22.5% in 2013.
The three economic indicators of industry (IPI, IEP, ICN) show an evolution of the food industry and beverages production in 2014 more satisfying than manufacturing as a whole and to reaffirm that this is the continuation of the recovery of activity in the food industry and the start thereof in the manufacture of beverages.
Increase in exports
“One of the pillars that has sustained this trend is the emergence of the activity in the foreign market, the trend has continued to rise in recent years, helping to improve the performance of the trade balance to register a balance positive for the food and beverage industry since 2008, “explains Joaquín Maudos. According to the report data, the Spanish food and beverage exports amounted to 24.018 million euros in 2014, 5.9% more than in 2013. They assume, in addition, 10% of total exports of domestic goods.
Also during the past year 7.3% of the sector’s exports in the context of the European Union corresponding to Spain, making it the sixth European export economy.
As for the internationalization of the business of the Spanish food and beverage industry, since 2010 the number of exporting companies has grown at an average annual rate of 5.3%, accumulating an increase of 23.1% until last year, at which the sector had 12,401 exporting companies, 2.6% more than in 2013.
