Submission “Monastrell Alicante: The Mediterranean Spain” conference
The PDO Wines of Alicante presented on October 2 officially in Mediterranean House, the International Congress “Monastrell Alicante, Spain The Mediterranean”. This is an unprecedented meeting of the Monastrell variety to be held in the Auditorium of the Provincial Council of Alicante on 12 November and will include the participation of experts from the world of wine at the international level and representatives of other world regions where the Monastrell variety is also grown, as is the case with the French region of Bandol or Australia.
President PDO Wines Alicante, Miguel Antonio Navarro, accompanied by the Head of the Territorial Service of the Department of Environment, Carmen Catala, the Director of the School of Orihuela of the University Miguel Hernandez, Ricardo Abbey, Vice President of the Council Alicante, Eduardo Dolon and the Director of Casa Mediterráneo, Miguel Oliveros, stressed the need to create an event of this magnitude with the main purpose to claim the personality and the growing interest of Monastrell, “which we want to know your story and potential of this unique variety, “said Navarro. In addition, he continued, “this event helps reinforce the important mission of uniting the wine sector and represents an important example of the effort we are undertaking to achieve”.
In this regard, he stressed that it is a necessary initiative that aims to defend a unique variety that occurs in different regions of the world with a common characteristic: “only found in places of Mediterranean climates. One aspect that gives character and distinction and allows you to be present in the most exclusive linear with varieties and more widespread and popular names. ”
Navarro stressed that “it is time to hold a Congress that meets all the voices, locally and globally, are working with passion in the preparation and presentation of this variety. And we must do so from Alicante which is the epicenter of the Mediterranean, closely linked to the variety, and with the support of Appellations of Origin, Almansa, Bullas, Jumilla and Yecla scenario, along with that of Alicante, more hectares of Monastrell are in Spain, “he said.
“Congress Monastrell is the most important cultural landmark of Valencia and perhaps the Mediterranean. We have therefore he wanted to unite all Monastrell producing regions of the world and come to know the origin of this variety, “he said.
The Congress will bring together more than 30 journalists from the world of wine from different countries of Europe and America and aims to be the most important event of the sector for vindication Spanish varieties that are not well known and have high value.
Has the support of more than 20 different organizations: from Cajamar, universities like Miguel Hernandez de Elche, or the Polytechnic of Valencia, Alicante CDT, the Chamber of Agriculture and VAR AOC Bandol (France), IVACE International, ICEX and Alicante City Council or the Mediterranean House. This broad participation is a “clear reflection of the wine unites the peoples of this area” as noted the director of the organization, Miguel Oliveros, during the presentation.
