Primavera and Victory guarantee global quality for growers and marketers
Aspects such as rusticity, homogeneity and quality from the start of the campaign reaffirm the success of Primavera and Victory as early varieties. And a shelf life is added that guarantees differentiation in the markets. Global quality throughout the Mediterranean Basin
After an extremely dry and warm winter, we are currently at the moment of maximum production for strawberries, and where varieties such as Primavera and Victory, from the Plant Sciences and Berry Genetics breeding program, propagated for southern Europe and North Africa by EL PINAR, are revalidating their differentiating value, not only at the production level but also on the shelves.
Within the early segment, both varieties continue to climb positions, not only in Huelva but also in other Mediterranean Arc countries: this program is proving to be a success in the south of Italy, and Victory is the leader in Greece and Morocco.
Keys to success
In the case of Primavera, it is a variety that has been in production since the beginning of December, with unbeatable quality and behavior; For its part, Victory stands out for its homogeneity, both in production and quality.
Another aspect that defines both materials is their rusticity. “The elimination of active substances that have been permitted until now with extraordinary uses for soil disinfection in Spain will make necessary to have rustic varieties. In this sense, Primavera and Victory are very well positioned, with very good performance in non-disinfected soils like the ones we have in other cultivation areas where we are already leaders”, explains Jorge Muñoz, commercial manager of EL PINAR.
Firmness is another added value. In these moments of maximum production and market saturation, the excellent shelf life of Victory allows us to contain its harvest, without overripe the fruit, achieving a better marketing rate, and prolonging the harvest until June.
Market feedback
In a context of high competitiveness and high costs, having varieties highly demanded by the markets guarantees greater profitability. And this is how the shelves are responding to varieties like Primavera and Victory.
“The market currently demands Victory. Its quality from the start of production, color and homogeneous shape, make it ideal for packaging with high added value, such as the one kilo box. In addition, its shelf life gives the marketer great confidence and security”, argues Jorge Muñoz, commercial manager of EL PINAR.
All of these arguments confirm and revalidate the position that both varieties, Primavera and Victory, are reaching in the Mediterranean Basin.
