Peruvian coffee conquests USA, Canada and Mexico
With interesting business projections and great satisfaction of national and international entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector, the business conference Coffee Expo 2015 Peru was held in the framework of the event of the same name held from 23 to 25 October at the Meadow House Miraflores, in the Commission for the Promotion of Peru for export and tourism – PromPeru.
The business conference was attended by 38 businessmen between domestic exporters and buyers from the US, Canada and Mexico, which were pleasantly surprised by the qualities and national product quality. Proceeds from this activity over US $ 8 million project transactions.
The appointment was aimed at promoting and encouraging the international consumption of specialty coffee product for their particular characteristics have an incomparable aroma and flavor that attracts many buyers worldwide.
Since 2011, the trade show Expo Café Peru has become a platform that integrates the various national and international economic agents, through the exchange of knowledge, information and networking of commercial contacts that favor the promotion of exports.
It is noteworthy that the trade fair exhibition is the result of joint efforts of the public and private sectors and is organized by the Peruvian Chamber of Coffee, the National Coffee Board, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism, PromPeru, the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation and DEVIDA.
PROMPERÚ also informed that this synergy has allowed institutions to promote projects aimed at improving the quality and productivity of specialty coffees and thus help expand the export base and reach new markets and buyers.
In this leading trade fair, various cooperatives that have been supported by Regional Offices Export Macro Central and South East PROMPERU presented. The flag of the province of La Convencion, organized by the sponsoring agency and the Commonwealth of Municipalities of the Convention, introduced seven cooperatives and companies that showed specialty coffees.
Also, more than 20 cooperatives and producers Macro Central Region received direct assistance programs cost promoter, negotiation and corporate image entity. These include the CAC Satipo, CAC Florida Cooperative Agroecological Origin Coffee and Cacao VRAE, CAC Valle Rio Apurimac and Ayacucho Agroexportadora TASTA SAC. The latter was the winner of the second place in the competition organized by the National Coffee Board.
Peru produces the Arabica species, which belong to the group of mild coffees and is highly appreciated worldwide. The conditions of climate, soil, altitude determine the characteristics that give the product, taste and aroma as exceptional by which he is known.
In Peru, about 90% of coffee is grown under shade and a process is carried out with particular care with the ecosystem and in harmony with the environment.
Coffee accounts for 35% of total agricultural exports. In 2014, product shipments increased by 7%, reaching US $ 745 million. Between January and August this year, the figure reached US $ 228 million.
In the last five years, 229 coffee exporters led to 72 markets, with Germany, USA, Belgium, South Korea and Sweden, the main.
Regarding exports organic coffee, they reached US $ 52.5 million in the last year. Between January and August, shipments reached 21.5 million.
The coffee has a strong social component, because they are involved around 223,500 families in coffee producing areas.
PROMPERÚ and Commercial Office of Peru Abroad (OCEX) is conducting a series of activities to promote specialty coffee in the world, through tastings and participation in international fairs.
