IV Technical Conference on the cultivation of cranberry
The Delegation of Huelva of COITAND organizes the IV Technical Conference on the cultivation of cranberry, next Wednesday, March 21st, in the Álvaro Alonso Barba Building of the University Campus of La Rábida.
At the inauguration, which will take place at 9:00 am, personalities from the Town Hall of Palos De La Frontera will take part; from the University of Huelva (UHU); of the Higher Technical School of Engineering; of the Territorial Delegation of Agriculture, Fishing and Rural Development of the Junta de Andalucía; of the Delegation of Huelva of the Official College of Agricultural Technical Engineers of Western Andalusia and of the Official College of Agricultural Technical Engineers (COITAND).
During the development of the Conference, the possibilities of grafting in the cultivation of cranberry will be analyzed; this fruit as a star product of healthy eating; the benefits of silicon fertilization and the experience of cranberry cultivation under substrate conditions.
In the afternoon, big data will be analyzed as a competitive strategy in agriculture and the final round table will be discussed on this crop.
Huelva cultivates approximately 3,000 hectares of this fruit in the province, which is in continuous expansion. 96% of Spanish exports (third European producer behind Germany and Poland) is destined for the EU due to the growing demand in these countries, and the rest, 4%, to third countries being the main destination in Switzerland but with a interest in recent years by countries in the Near East, such as the United Arab Emirates and the Far East such as Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore.
It also stands out as the first spring production in Europe.
The cranberry is a fruit of impressive nutritional and dietary qualities of low caloric content, rich in vitamin C, fiber, potassium and iron and calcium. The so-called “super-fruit” of the XXI century, also has the highest concentration of antioxidant pigments, so fashionable in these times.
