InLac urges further progress in the Value Chain Agreement for the milk sector
InLac, an interprofessional organization that encompasses the entire dairy sector, urges to continue making progress in the Agreement for Stability and Sustainability of the Value Chain in the milk sector, for which it has requested the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, Isabel García Tejerina, to make an effort to define more clearly and concretely the concept of sustainability in the dairy sector.
In a meeting recently held with Isabel García Tejerina, the new president of InLac, José Armando Tellado, has raised the need for a clear definition of the concept of sustainability within the dairy sector and has made the MAPAMA available the methodology to the Chain Of Value elaborated for the Interprofessional by an external consultant, and that incorporates public statistics of the sector.
In the official meeting, the first between José Armando Tellado, also director general of CAPSA, and the minister, has been transmitted the two main objectives of InLac, in the short and medium term: the development of the Stability and Sustainability Agreement of the Chain of Value of the Milk Sector, driven by the minister herself, and the promotion of the benefits of milk and dairy products to reverse the current trend of decline in consumption.
The sector appreciates the existence of the Dairy Agreement, which integrates the production and processing chain, as well as the distribution
InLac wants to advance in the development of this agreement, continuing the work that has been jointly carried out with the support of the Ministry in years as complicated as the last two. To this end, it considers a priority to focus on the definition and quantification of sustainability in the sector and the redefinition of the concept of PLS (Sustainable Milk Product) in relation to the terms of origin, sustainability and transparency for the consumer.
With regard to the promotion of milk and milk products, InLac’s activity will focus on the co-financed project between the Interprofessional and the EU, which will be extended during 2017 and 2018 and will relate healthy lifestyle and consumption of Dairy products through various materials in multiple formats to reach the final consumer and the medical and scientific community. The first broadcast is scheduled to begin this spring.
The president of InLac, who was accompanied at the meeting by Ramón Artime, vice president, and Águeda García-Agulló, director, took the opportunity to thank the minister for his involvement in the events of World Dairy Day at the School celebrated the last two Years in Spain.
