Delegate®, new asset against Prays in olive tree of Dow Agroscience
By Juan Herrera
Dow Agrosciences has a new material to kill Prays, one of the most harmful pests for the olive tree: Delegate® 250 WG. The 14th Symposium on Plant Protection was the scenario chosen by the company to publicize the benefits of using this insecticide.
The Prays olivae or moth of the olive is a small butterfly whose larva causes very important damages in the different vegetative organs of the plant. It has three generations: the first (the philosophical generation) does the first damage in the leaves in late winter or early spring; Later, in April-May, the adult larvae of the first generation adults (the anthophaga generation) feed on the flowers of the olive tree; Finally the butterflies of this generation (capófaga) do the putting on the freshly curdled fruits feeding on them and producing its fall.
To end the Prays, Dow makes a product based on Spinetoram available to the Delegate® olive grower, an active ingredient that has shown excellent insecticidal activity and persistence while maintaining low toxicity in mammals and short environmental residues, making it in an effective and compatible tool for integrated pest management (IPM).
The results of Delegate® are very positive on a wide range of key pests of different orders such as capocapsa (Cydia pomonella), grafolita (Cydia molesta) and psila of the pear (Psylla spp.) and thrips in fruit trees
In addition, the active substance Spinetoram exerts an insecticidal action against caterpillars, microlepidoptera (such as Prays olivae or Tuta absoluta), leafminers, thrips and dipterans (Drosophila suzukii).
