China verifies protocol agreement for export plum and peach from Murcia
Carmen Teodora Morales, General Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment (CAAMA) of Murcia, has met with a delegation of officials from the People’s Republic of China who has visited the region to verify compliance of the agreement for the start of peach and plum exports to this country.
The meeting was also attended by the deputy director general of Health Agreements and Control in Border of Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), Miguel Angel Martin, and director of the area of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Government Delegation in Murcia, Joaquin Rodriguez .
This agreement establishes a series of measures and phytosanitary controls to minimize the risk of entry of pests and diseases to China, among which the installation of traps and performing preventive treatments for control. One of the most important measures consists in subjecting the fruit to cold treatment for 18 days at 2 ° C prior to or during transit to ensure the absence of live larvae of fruit fly.
During his stay in the region, members of the Chinese delegation visited two farms in Jumilla and Cieza, the companies Frutas Esther and CIRVA, where they have been able to verify compliance with such obligations in parcels registered for export, further transport and management in clothing stores.
This season have registered 13 companies with 326 pitches and an area of 1,500 hectares and 12 clothing stores. The verification of compliance with the requirements of this bilateral agreement is made at source by the Plant Protection Service of the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment.
The transport of the goods shall be by plane, boat and train, the latter means of transport which initially intend to use the producers of the region to cover the 9,000 kilometers that separate the two countries. To do this they will require refrigerated containers that ensure the maintenance of the cold chain.
More exports
The director general said that “the opening of this market will produce a significant increase in exports from Murcia, consolidating our global leadership.” In his view, the beginning of these exports to China, not only provide the US market fruit of the highest quality and food safety, respecting their phytosanitary requirements, but also is the first step towards the culmination of negotiations the export of other products such as table grapes. ”
He also recognized the efforts being made by the sector to meet the established protocol and negotiations that have remained from the embassy in Beijing and the Ministry of Commerce.
