Zaragoza will become the capital of “Agriculture 4.0”
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment of the Government of Aragon, Joaquín Olona, officially presented on September 30 #DatAgri2019, the reference event in Southern Europe for the promotion of digital transformation in the agri-food sector, to be held next November 14 and 15 in Zaragoza.
During the presentation, Olona wanted to highlight the importance of the event, “which for two days will put the city of Zaragoza in the international focus of the agri-food sector.” Likewise, he has also assured that we are facing a “historical” opportunity so that, for the first time, the digital transformation is done in favor of the income of family and professional agriculture. “But this cannot be done if political measures and decisions are not taken,” he added.
During the press conference, the promoters of #DATAGRI2019, (the Coordinator of Farmers and Livestock Organizations (COAG), Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain, the technology company HISPATEC and the ETSIAM of the University of Córdoba), have advanced that, For two days, more than 1,500 professionals will analyze the state of digital transformation in the agri-food sector. Likewise, the spokesperson for the Organizing Committee, José Luis Molina, has confirmed that this year’s edition will maintain a structure similar to that of last year: November 14, “#ForumDay”, in which visions of more than 20 international experts and know the details of several success stories worldwide around the digitalization of the agri-food value chain. On November 15 will take place the “#FarmingDay”, a demonstration day in the field in which the audience can discover the most innovative solutions related to artificial intelligence, big-data, IOT “internet of things”, sensorization, connections via satellite, etc …, applied to decision making in the agri-food sector.
For his part, the Secretary General of UAGA-COAG Aragón, José María Alcubierre, thanked the Organizing Committee for the election of Zaragoza for the celebration of this edition, while mentioning the importance of innovation to ensure the profitability of family farms and professionals from Aragón. In that sense, he said that the digitalization of agriculture should serve to reduce production costs and make more optimal and efficient use of all resources. “All this to move towards a sustainable model of agriculture that contributes to conserve the environment and mitigate the effects of climate change, while feeding a growing world population,” Alcubierre added.
From Cooperatives Agroalimentarias de Aragón, its president, José Victor Nogués, has affirmed that from cooperatives we support digital transformation because we are key so that data management is a benefit for farmers and ranchers and is shared in a secure way and not Become an oligopoly. “If we don’t do it, others will come and they will,” said Nogués.
