Spain, a key supplier of eggs in the United States
Spanish exporting eggs to the United States is now possible. The first containers have already left the Spanish ports. Only seven countries around the world are allowed, according to the Agricultural Marketing Agency US and become one of them is a real milestone for the Spanish sector.
Inprovo has actively worked with the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment (MAGRAMA), producers and buyers to get the health certificate must accompany the eggs.
Spain is one of the leading exporters of eggs from the EU for its high level of self-sufficiency and production volume. Furthermore, the European model imposes very high standards for eggs and egg products community, and are appreciated in the international market for its quality and safety. The size of its companies, the country’s strategic position for maritime transport and health status (has not suffered any outbreak of avian influenza in recent years) make of Spanish start one of the most competitive EU industry.
Since 2013 the increase in the supply of eggs European (mainly in Italy, Germany or France) has held the Community market with home prices down. “The demand for European eggs from the US has completely changed the landscape, “explains the Director of Inprovo (Interprofessional Organization of the Egg and its Products), Mar Fernández.”Spain is one of the few EU countries with surpluses, we export 23% of our production in 2014, and why Americans are buying eggs here,” he added. This represents a lifeline for farmers, since the investments made on farms in 2012 to apply the rules of welfare have been a major borrowing for most companies.
Following the success of the management of the health certificate for the US, the internationalization plan in 2015 plans to expand Inprovo in new third countries markets, many of whom have lost their supply as eggs and egg products imported North American country. Since 1995 Spain is a net exporter of eggs and supplies more than 20 countries in the EU, Africa, Asia and America.
