A ‘tasty’ campaign to encourage children to eat more fruits and vegetables
Tomorrow, June 4th, takes place in Murcia the last of the two cooking contests of Huerta Chef campaign, designed by the Federation of Agricultural Cooperatives of Murcia (FECOAM) and funded by the European Union and the Ministry of Water, Agriculture and Environment. This ‘tasty’ initiative aims to encourage children to consume fruits and vegetables in order to maintain a healthy diet.
The last contest of the Huerta Chef campaign -the former was held in Lorca on 28 May-, will begin at 10.30am. and will stage the Cardinal Square Belluga. As in the previous edition, will feature representatives of regional or local institutions, and the participation of renowned chefs in the region, who collaborate as prescribers of the benefits of the products of the vegetable gardens. This time, there will be the presence of the former lorquina Junior Master Chef contestant, Maria Querol.
Contestants will be students from schools in Murcia and districts and nearby towns, which must prepare delicious recipes with fruits and vegetables.
FECOAM director, Antonio Sanz, stressed the importance of encouraging full diet of fruits and vegetables among young people to prevent health problems in the future and promote the consumption of these products in the region.
It is expected to involve up to 250 children at this event. Students have also conducted activities within this campaign in schools and participate in a photo contest through social networks with #huertachef label. On Saturday children of primary will have the opportunity to spend a fun day with one goal: to develop good attitudes towards the consumption of fruit and vegetables native to both help them maintain a healthy diet.
Fruits and vegetables are, along with olive oil and cereals, one of the mainstays of the Mediterranean diet, based on a healthy and balanced diet, declared intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO on November 16, 2010. Through their collaboration in the gastronomic campaign Huerta Chef, FECOAM promotes good eating habits among children, while the quality and excellence of its production of fresh fruits and vegetables.
