The spread of new technologies related to management, storage, processing, debugging, visualization and analysis of large volumes of data is such that companies have serious difficulties in finding specialists able to work effectively in this field.
This is one of the reasons why the European Commission has decided to include in the Digital Agenda for Europe to encourage the development of these new technologies through the Big Data Value Association (http://bdva.eu) which is part of the UPV. In this sense, and in its role of academic institution, the university took the initiative to offer training in Big Data Analytics. The definition of Big Data could be summarized as the development of new hardware and software technologies to manage large volumes of data and to analyze them in order to obtain relevant information to better interpret reality and make decisions based on the results obtained.
