Through a review of the different phases of the vegetative cycle of the olive tree said nutritional needs at each stage for good budding, flowering, fruit, fattening and ripening of the fruit.
He then reviewed the role of each of the nutrients in olive growing and the importance of providing each of them in the proper dosage. As it relates to the primary macronutrients, he stressed the importance of good levels of nitrogen -Increase the development of the plant, vegetative activity accelerates and increases the absorption of other nutrients-. He said his needs increase during the flowering and fruit so good management is essential subscriber. It is also important to control the levels of phosphorus in the maturation -key, on increasing disease resistance and quality aceituna- and Potassium, a determinant nutrient olives. It has a very important effect on production. The olive is a crop with high demand for this item, because the olive is a fruit rich in potassium. Moreover, it is the nutrient that poses major problems, especially in years of low rainfall and high yields, so good management is vital.
Besides these, the role of other nutrients like calcium -Increase root development, increased resistance to frost and minimizes post-recolección- damage, Magnesium -elemento essential in the process of photosynthesis and Sulphur highlighted, whose deficiencies are similar to those of nitrogen. In addition, micronutrients such as boron, iron and zinc, are all key in olive cultivation to obtain higher performance.
