Beet production has been affected by water scarcity and declining acreage. However, while the supply has tended to decline, the presence of Mexican imports has prevented prices rise.
“I know that Mexico has been quoting the lowest prices of the ordinary and that affects us,” says Hugo Ramos, King Produce. “We have to match those prices, so the prices are low.” On July 15, the price of a box of beet in bundles of caliber 12 were aged 9 to $ 13.50 in California and Mexico borders with California and Arizona. However, Ramos says he has seen prices as low as $ 6 for a box because of the pressure from imports.
According to Ramos, no demand. “But we have to match these low prices. Mexico produces round and desert supply will be available later, so I think the market will remain so for a while.”
