Uruguay: The use of ethion is suspended after meat detected by US
The Ministry of Livestock, Agriculture and Fisheries of Uruguay (MGAP) announced the temporary suspension of the pesticide and antiparasitic etión livestock use, following the detection of traces of this substance by US authorities on meat shipments destined for that country.
The decision of the portfolio of livestock is inserted into the investigation launched in November, when US health authorities detected in five containers with Uruguayan meat traces of ethion, a substance whose use in animals is prohibited in the North American country, requires a statement MGAP.
However, the substance is used in large livestock production countries such as Australia, to control ticks and flies in animals and, if properly used and respected the deadlines for implementation, should not leave residues in their flesh.
After the participation of a technical mission that traveled to the US MGAP, Uruguay suspended temporarily records and stores withdraw from “all formulations containing ethion registered for tick and fly, regardless of their route of application,” stresses The document.
