The EC will propose the Andalusian Observatory of prices as ‘Feader draft Best Practices’
European officials will propose to include the Andalusian Observatory of Prices in the list of projects ‘Feader Best Practices’, for the contribution of this web platform to market transparency. This decision was communicated during the meeting held recently by the Secretary General of Agriculture and Food of the Government of Andalusia, Rafael Peral, with a Community delegation, headed by the director of the Monitoring Unit of the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD) of Spain and Portugal, Efthimios Bokias.
The visit to Andalusia from this group of representatives of the European Commission, which keeps track of the Rural Development Programme (RDP) of Spain and Portugal, is part of the scrutiny by Brussels to certain unique investment projects of the Autonomous Communities .
Throughout its nine years of existence, the Observatory of Prices and Markets of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development (CAPDER) has expanded the information provided on the different agricultural sectors. In the beginning he had only prices received by farmers (in home prices) of protected vegetable and strawberry in Andalusia. Subsequently, new areas have been added until now have 18 agricultural sectors, three cattle and two of organic products. Although home prices remain the foundation of the Price Observatory, this information platform also offers prices in other commercial positions (center handling, wholesale markets and consumption) for some of the sectors analyzed.
The Observatory website receives more than 3,000 visits each month in search of prices of food products, studies, reports, cultivation costs, product sheets and information on value chains. This platform is a clear example of the importance of collaboration between the public administration and private companies, in order to provide transparency to the market.
