Spain, the first country in the world that exports peach to China
The long process of negotiation that has developed between the Spanish Ministry of Agriculture and the Chinese authorities has finally ended with the authorization of exports of Spanish peaches and plums to China. This makes Spain the first country in the world exporting peach to China. These exports may take place immediately, thanks to the foresight and organization of the campaign by the Ministry.
Such authorization has been provided by the Chinese competent body, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine of the People’s Republic of China (AQSIQ), through an official letter to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment Embassy of Spain in China.
Compliance with this measure is given to the agreement reached last November between the Secretary General of Agriculture and Food, Carlos Cabanas, and the deputy minister of AQSIQ, Zhang Qirong, so that exports could begin this campaign.
Last June, the fulfillment of that protocol was verified on the spot by a delegation of technical experts and representatives of AQSIQ, who visited Spain, taking a very successful printing, to test the robustness and reliability of the control system and certification plant in Spain
Also, forethought and organization of the export campaign conducted by the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the autonomous communities and the sector has allowed, after official approval, exports to China of peaches and plums are possible immediately in the current campaign.
In this sense, AQSIQ has published on its website orchards, warehouses and cold authorized facilities. In addition, the computer application of the Ministry of Agriculture to manage imports and exports CEXVEG (Foreign Trade Plant) enabled from the start this campaign to address, immediately, exports.
CEXVEG has been one of the most important elements during the visit of the Chinese authorities and in this opening of markets, which has been particularly highlighted by the delegation itself AQSIQ as the key management and control element that gives confidence in the system phytosanitary control and certification of Spain.
A rising market
Negotiations for authorization to export peaches and plums have spread over several years, which have drawn numerous technical difficulties. Keep in mind that China is a very demanding country plant health, as evidenced by the fact that Spain is the first country authorized to export to this market peaches.
Indeed, until 2014 they did not begin to export fruit to China, and were only allowed so far citrus, whose sales reached 1,150 tons in 2014, with a significant growth rate. In 2015 they came to 3,218 tons, and only in the first quarter of 2016 2,270 tons were exported.
