Spain: Pears production recovers while apples fell by 20% in Catalonia
Apple drop from last year but up compared to the last five years.
Afrucat, the Business Association of Fruit of Catalonia, reported that total stocks of apples and pears in Catalonia on June 30, 2015 show a decline in apple and pear a slight increase, compared to the same period of 2014. According to Catalan producers, there 20.108 tons of apples, 20% more than average from 2011 to 2014 and 20% less than last year. In pears, the global stock of Lleida pears (not available Girona complete and comprehensive data), 30 June is 2,456 tons, 25% less than the 2011-2014 average and 3% more than in 2014. By producing districts in Lleida were estimated total stocks of 13,966 tons of apple, 20% more than the 2011-2014 average, but 31% less than last year.
The Golden varietal group remains the most important with a stock of 13,239 tons and Granny Smith has a stock of 480 tonnes, the other varieties have very few stocks or are terminated.
As for pears, they have been accounted for 2,456 tonnes, 25% less than the 2011-2014 average and 3% higher than last year. In Conference, the stock is 2,454 tons and the other varieties are given for completion.
Regarding the Girona, the other producing province, they have recorded a total of 6,141 tons of apple, representing 77% more than average from 2011 to 2014 and 23% more than last year. The stock of Golden is 5,458 tons; Rojas is 347 tons and Granny Smith are stocks of 337 tons. In pears, no stocks Conference in Girona.
