Summit SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE Livestock held in Clermont Ferrand (France), has beaten its record of visits with 86.600 participants (85.000 in 2014), a figure which, with their 25 years of experience and evolution, has consolidated this summit as fair reference for the sector.
The 2016 has been a special edition due to the quality of animals presented and the organization of all beef cattle competitions in the prestigious Zénith concert hall.

To illustrate the strength of SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE, general curator, Fabrice Berthon, has highlighted the fact that it has been “the only fair experience which has had this year a large margin of progression, compared to other French agricultural fairs, which have been decreasing his assistants”.
Opinion endorsed by the president of the fair, Jacques Chazalet: “this edition is a success in difficult times, visitors have responded and foreign delegations have moved in number also note an increase in attendance of young people who come for. find training and learn about new techniques. According to its origins and its activities, the objectives of the delegations vary, as Roger Blanc, founding president of the International Fair SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE explains. “Visitors from countries of Eastern Europe come to SOMMET to buy genetics and specific material, visitors from Africa, increasingly numerous, they are present to find solutions to feed their populations. We are here to help them find the right contacts and promote trade. In the SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE, they can find everything they need. ”
As a positive balance of the international dimension of this fair is included the signing of a cooperation agreement between the organizers of the SOMMET and an agricultural fair in Cuba.
Success in animal contests
This edition, which coincided with the 25th anniversary of SOMMET, has yielded very good results, especially in competitions and animal exhibits. Thus, with respect to the Herd Book Charolais there has been unprecedented participation and high interest from visitors. In a difficult context, the SOMMET has enabled mobilize all farmers who have been able to meet, interact with the public and show the excellence of the race in terms of genetics.

Meanwhile, and from the 1st edition of the SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE, Holsteins race has seen its influence increase year after year. As for the Simmental breed, the director of the Agency selection Simmental France, Hervé Vignon has referred to the excellent reception of the second European competition for the Simmental breed in recent SOMMET DE L’ELEVAGE. “With 48 cows in competition (36 French and 12 foreign companies from Germany, Austria and Switzerland), the Euro-Simmental has completed all its commitments: A ring full of visitors from all backgrounds and a successful auction with record sales” .
The space reserved for sheep has met expectations, providing visitors, high quality contests where professionalism of farmers combined with the exceptional qualities of the breeds represented: Ile de France, Texel, Suffolk as Charollais Sheep
As space that increasingly attracts most visitors, the area reserved for horses has been represented by more than 300 horses, representing 9 French draft breeds, and horses to ride like donkeys.
