Rabbit farms in Spain are halved
Professional agricultural organizations, Agro-food Cooperatives, the Sectorial Association of Rabbit, CUNIBER, the Association of Slaughterhouses, MADECUN and the three largest slaughterhouses in Spain have sounded the alarm about the serious economic situation and consumption by facing the rabbit sector, with a significant reduction in rabbit farms whose real figure would be about half of the data offered by the REGA.
In addition to the measures and tools that can be implemented by the Administration and which have moved earlier, during a recent meeting to discuss actions to improve the situation of the sector, was shown the need to work simultaneously on three main lines:
• As in other sectors, such as swine, there is a need to launch a tool that is recognized by production and industry to stabilize and provide transparency of its trade relations in the whole state.
• In order to strengthen the consumption of rabbit meat, it must be wagered to develop a strategy of continuous communication within the framework of the Interprofessional and supported by a Standard Extension sufficiently equipped
• For the Interprofessional can implement the tasks entrusted to it there must be an atmosphere of trust between the parties. To this end, it is proposed to review some elements of the Statutes and internal operations. There is a commitment of the parties to begin this work immediately and leave the door open to all those who, in the interests of the sector, wish to join the initiative. Since the Union of Small Farmers (UPA), noted that organizations have joined this initiative believe that this may be another element to reverse the bad situation that exists right now.
Among the measures to alleviate this rabbit sector crisis, it has also been agreed to convene a meeting with associations of distribution, to incorporate them in the process of recovery of the value chain Product
