IRTA Technical Seminar on Horticulture and Gardening circulate. Castelldefels (Barcelona)

The technical seminar “Horticulture and gardening circle: water management, nutrient leaching,” organized by the Institute of Research and Technology (IRTA) and the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, will be held in Castelldefels (Barcelona) on Wednesday, November 9th.

Horticulture for the production of ornamental plant and the establishment and management of green spaces of the municipalities faces several challenges. Among them are issues of management and control of irrigation water, nutrients applied and leachate generated.

In this thematic framework this conference on circular horticulture presents a concept based on the use of by-products generated in the particular production system to give more uses. But prior to recycling by-products should be minimized inputs to be incorporated into the system (water, fertilizers).

From different areas and entities (companies, nurseries, administrations, academia and research) is trying to work to meet these challenges. Thus, this event aims to publicize, through a comprehensive program of interventions, different experiences to make more sustainable systems and provide tools to advance the circularity of agricultural systems and plant systems.
