II International Meeting of the onion sector. Albacete

The next days 15th and 16th November, the capital of Albacete will host the second international meeting of the onion sector, promoted by the Association of Onion Producers of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM, and whose main objective will be to carry out an in-depth analysis of the sector , highlighting the importance of this bulb in all its aspects, both productive, nutritious, commercial and phytosanitary.

This important event will be structured in two days dedicated to this product:

-> November 15, at the Congress Palace of the city will have the participation of several international experts who will address the situation of the markets, the improvement in varieties that has been experienced in recent years, phytosanitary problems of the crop, as well as the future in terms of demands from current customers and consumption prospects of supermarkets and distribution chains.

-> November 16, in the storage and conservation facilities of the Association in Albacete, will be a sample of machinery for planting, harvesting, processing and packaging of onions, in addition to a series of lectures concerning the process of long-term storage for this bulb in cold room.

Castilla-La Mancha is the main producing region of Spain, and one of the most important at European level, with almost 11,000 hectares cultivated in this 2017 in its entirety and a production that, in 2016 exceeded 777 million kilos. Within this region, the province of Albacete stands out in a very important way, which counts in this 2017 campaign with almost 5,000 hectares cultivated and that, in 2016, it obtained a production of more than 394 million kilos.

The Association of Producers of Onion of Castilla-La Mancha, PROCECAM, currently has more than 1,250 associated producers scattered throughout the Spanish geography and that as a whole, they cultivate an area of 6,325 hectares, with a production in 2016 of more than 356 millions of kilos.
