The Fertiberia Cátedra de Estudios Agroambientales celebrates its tenth Conference on Fertilization for Sustainable Agriculture: “Circular Economy and Innovation”, directed to the professionals of the agricultural sector and students of agronomy and environment. The chosen place is the Superior Technical School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering (Agronomist Building) of the Polytechnic University of Madrid.
In December 2015 the European Commission adopted an ambitious package of circular economy measures to help European businesses and consumers in the transition to a more robust economy in which resources are used in a more sustainable way.
The circular economy measures approved by the European Commission aim to extract the maximum value and use of all raw materials, products and waste, promoting energy savings and reducing greenhouse gas emissions
In short, it is a question of forgetting the “take, manufacture, use and pull” approach.
The sectoral measures adopted by the Commission include the development of a new fertilizer regulation with the aim of producing fertilizers from organic and secondary raw materials, harmonizing all categories of fertilizer products to improve the functioning of the internal market and to stimulate research and innovation to meet these challenges.
The Fertiberia Cátedra de Estudios Agroambientales wants to dedicate this Conference to analyze the proposed regulation on fertilizers, their strengths and weaknesses. It also aims to give an overview of developments already initiated by fertilizer manufacturers in the search for new raw materials from other processes or activities that allow the recovery of nutrients, bearing in mind that innovation should always have as a priority objective the quality and the safety of the fertilizers that are obtained.
