Marketing, promotion and marketing of apple and pear in the EU, US and Spain, will be one of the main topics to be discussed at the conference organized by FEPEX and this afternoon held at Fruit Attraction. It will involve representatives of the European Commission, pear promotion in the United States, as well as representatives of the production and promotion in Spain.
The conference entitled “Apple and Pear Attraction: marketing, promotion and marketing” will begin with a presentation by Luis Flórez, of the Directorate General for Agriculture and Rural Development of the European Commission, who will explain the information and market monitoring by the European Commission apple, because of its special importance in fruit and vegetable production and marketing in the EU.
Pear promotion in the United States will be addressed by the Director of Communication and Marketing of USA Pears, Kathy Stephenson, who will explain the main actions related to the promotion carried out by this institution in the United States.
Nationally, marketing, promotion and marketing of apple and pear into two parts will be analyzed. On the one hand, Manel Simon, director of Afrucat, the Business Association of Fruit of Catalonia, will provide the main figures of production and marketing of pome fruit in Spain. On the other hand, a round table will be held, with the participation of heads of major Appellations of Origin and Protected Geographical Indications pear and apple in Spain, who will explain the campaigns that have been implemented in the domestic market and UE market. At the conference will participate Pablo Linares, technical director of the D.O.P Manzana Reineta del Bierzo; Juan Antonio Tomás Merlos, secretary of the Regulatory Council of the D.O.P. Pera de Jumilla; Sixto Cabezón, manager of the D.O.P Pera Rincón de Soto; Lourdes Salazar, sales manager D.O.P. Pera de Lleida and Frigola Lorenc, president of IGP Poma de Girona.
Spanish exports of apples in 2015 amounted to 121,657 tonnes, 7% more than in the previous year, worth EUR 89.5 million (+ 12%) and the pear totaled 96,567 tons (-20%) by a value of 77.4 million euros (-6.5%)
Catalonia is the main export community of apple and pear. In 2015 exports amounted to 78,593 tons Catalonia, followed by Murcia with 10,579 tons and 8,806 tons Aragon. As for pear exports amounted to 57,611 tons Catalonia, followed by Valencia with 10,686 tons, 5,176 tons Andalusia and Aragon with 5,154 tons.
“Apple and Pear Attraction: marketing, promotion and marketing” is one of the conferences organized by FEPEX as part of the eighth edition of FRUIT ATTRACTION, among which are:
• Access and opening new markets for export of fruits and vegetables, which will take place on Friday, October 7, 11 to 13 hours at FRUIT FORUM 4
• The varietal innovation in the value chain, organized together with ANOVE to be held on Friday, October 7, from 10 to 12.30 hours FRUIT FORUM 7
• Ways to improve the availability of plant protection products in smaller crops, celebrated together with AEPLA, on Wednesday, October 5.
• IV International Congress of table grape seedless Grape Attraction, organized by APOEXPA, with the collaboration of FEPEX, on Thursday, October 6, from 9.30 to 13.30 hours.
