Mexico started exporting livestock products and poultry products to Cuba
As a result of the recent official visit to Cuba from head of the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA), José Calzada Rovirosa, where he met with the ministers of Agriculture, Gustavo Rodriguez Rollero, of Food industry, MarÍa del Carmen Concepción González, and Foreign Trade, Rodrigo Malmierca Díaz, Mexican producers may export to that country beef and veal, pigs, sheep and goats and dairy, egg and poultry products.
It is recalled that in November 2015, the governments of Mexico and Cuba set up a Technical Committee to address issues of cooperation, trade and investment, and to strengthen institutional links that allow medium and long term participation of Mexico in the food industry from Cuba.
After making the corresponding health assessments, the Institute of Veterinary Medicine (IMV) of the Antillean country recognized -last month on May- efficiency of Mexican Inspection Systems applied to slaughter animals. The National Health Service, Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA), was the body of the SAGARPA responsible for conducting negotiations with the IMV, through which achieved the health examination of Baja California Norte, Baja California Sur, Campeche, Colima , Chihuahua, Mexico City, Guerrero, Oaxaca, Quintana Roo, Sinaloa, Sonora, Tabasco, Tamaulipas and Yucatan as free of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI).
The aforementioned Cuban agency notified the SENASICA the judgment which will run until February 18, 2018, where the opinions of the visits to Mexico, in 2014 and 2015 were included, when ten establishments Federal Inspection Type (TIF), five were traveled dairy plants and egg products.
Also, in this opinion the category of sheep and goats was incorporated, so that the Cuban government included in the list of eligible those recommended by the SENASICA to export to that country. Because that establishments exporting dairy products is feasible veal, beef, pork, sheep, goat and viscera, as well as processed products from animals born in Mexico.
The Cuban institution, also authorized imports of egg products and poultry products, which come from birds born, raised and slaughtered in free states HPAI and are subjected to heat treatment to ensure the destruction of the virus according to the recommendations of the OIE.
Thus, once the models Animal Health Certificate Export agreed, will be exported to the Caribbean country fresh poultry meat, table eggs and fertile, originating in those Mexican states we had mentioned.
