Luis Planas announces a specific campaign to promote the consumption of products from fisheries and aquaculture
The Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, has participated today, in Vigo, in the inauguration of the XX International Fair of Frozen Products of the Sea (Conxemar), an annual meeting for the entire transforming, distributing, importing and exporting sector of the sea products.For the minister, this fair is a reference, a showcase of quality products, combined with cutting-edge technology.
Planas has announced that the Ministry will launch an institutional campaign to promote specific products of fisheries and aquaculture, within the framework of the Food for Spain program. This campaign, aimed mainly at children and young people, will encourage the consumption of fish in the diet and will value all its qualities as healthy and quality food, obtained according to the most demanding parameters of sustainability. The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food participates in Conxemar with an institutional exhibitor of 100 m2, which accommodates the associations and industries of the fishing sector, to promote their products and promote business contacts.
In addition, this space presents the Food Strategy of Spain, to raise awareness of the quality and variety of national products.
CONXEMAR
In his speech, Planas has highlighted the great potential of the industry sector and the commercialization of fishery products in Spain (canned and frozen), made up of just over 600 companies, with a turnover of almost 13,000 million euros, which generates more than 28,000 direct jobs. The minister has valued the initiative of Conxemar to create an interprofessional organization that unites the branches of production and transformation.
The main objective of this organization will be to promote frozen fish products, make visible the activities of production, transformation and commercialization of their products and improve the benefit of all the links in the chain. And in a second phase, the internationalization of the Interprofessional will be sought, to gain dimension and improve competitiveness. Planas has also highlighted this international vision.
INCREASE OF CONSUMPTION
On the other hand, Planas has emphasized the need to increase fish consumption. For this, the Government promotes actions such as institutional participation in national and international fairs. Promotional activities of agri-food and fishing products are also carried out Planas has announced, in this context, the implementation of new measures to promote the products of fisheries and aquaculture.
