JCB celebrates 25 years of its Fastrac tractor with two new models
JCB has celebrated the 25th anniversary of its innovative Fastrac tractor with the launch of two new and powerful models representative of the range. The new 8000 Series tractors are characterized by increased power, increased performance, greater comfort and visibility of its cab, new approved high-speed steering and new tire options, among other improvements.
JCB has launched its new 8000 series of tractors, which are equal in attractiveness and performance to those of the previous range and also incorporate:
Power 14%, higher thanks to engines that meet Tier 4 Final emission standards.
Up to 10% higher torque adds to the higher performance potential.
The new CommandPlus cabin enhances comfort and visibility from all angles.
Sharp bonnet design improves front visibility and lighting.
New fully hydrostatic approved high speed steering with Rapid Steer.
New tire options that increase tire options and tire types.
New components of the high resistance shaft that allow to increase the width of the covers up to three meters.
The new tractors, 8290 and 8330, are based on the unprecedented response of the new Fastrac 4000 series, between 160 and 235 hp, which offer excellent performance and are very popular
The most obvious changes are the distinctive design and the Command Plus cabin. But under the body, the new Fastrac 8290 and 8330 have engines with more power and torque, a new approved high-speed steering system and new tire options.
A new, more compact coupling package and front PTO and a larger platform surface behind the cab add to its versatility and productivity potential
“The unique combination of size, performance, control and comfort of the new Fastrac is surprising operators in a wide variety of applications, from pastures and farmland to mixed farms,” said JCB Chief Executive Officer John Smith.
Increased power
The Fastrac 8290 and 8330 are still using a six-cylinder engine and 8.4 liters, but now meets the Tier 4 Final emissions standard. However, revising engine specifications is not limited to compliance with emissions regulations, but now offers more power and torque thanks to the installation of a twin turbocharger that offers quick responses when the operator needs to increase power.
The two turbos are installed in series: a turbo of relatively small diameter that accelerates quickly to respond with agility to the pedal of accelerator, whereas the unit of greater diameter guarantees that there is power and pair of surplus in all the range of revolutions of the engine .
At nominal speed, the engine of the Fastrac 8290 develops 209 kW (280 hp) to match the power of the extraordinary Fastrac 8310; then the power of the engine reaches 228 kW (306 hp) when the revolutions are lowered with heavy towing loads or towing.
The 8330 takes the Fastrac to new levels of performance with a rated speed of 250 kW (335 hp) that reaches 260 kW (348 hp) at full load
The performance of the new model 8330 registers a generous power increase of 32 kW (42 HP) or 14%. At the same time, the maximum torque increases by 10% to 1440 Nm at 1500 rpm, giving the tractor an even greater capacity to maintain the type when conditions become more difficult or the tractor faces a slope, both in the countryside as in road.
For John Smith, “these figures represent a significant increase in the performance of our most representative tractor with heavy towing equipment, demanding power take-off implements and large trailers, tanks and spreaders. The 8330 is clearly the most productive Fastrac we have ever built, with power, torque and traction that can be fully exploited by V-TRONIC continuous variable transmission with multiple modes”.
The different modes selected by the operator using the advanced touch screen of the Fastrac give priority to optimum settings of the engine and transmission for power, fuel economy, constant power take-off speed, constant speed in the field or road trips.
The system can operate automatically or manually to provide progressive or step speed changes to emulate a Powershift system.
JCB ACTIV TRACTION is a key feature that helps the Fastrac with CVT transmissions to maintain grip during heavy hauling operations
This system extracts the information from a speed sensor by radar, the control of the position of the hydraulic system and the cruise control to manipulate the torque of the engine and maintain the traction, thus obtaining a greater yield with less cost, taking the maximum part of the weight distribution.
The engine and the cooling system are housed under a new hood designed to add a decisive character to the Fastrac 8000 tractors at the same time that it facilitates access for maintenance tasks. Additional work lights are added onto the grille to illuminate the area in front of the tractor more effectively and a steeper slope at the tip for improved visibility. The headlamps embedded in the grid make it no longer necessary the set of protection bars of the current model.
Ergonomic cabin
The new Command Plus cabin offers space, comfort and practicality in abundance, with an anatomical driver’s seat that can rotate up to 50 degrees to the right and 20 degrees to the left so you can see the equipment mounted at the rear and towed in comfort.
The operator sits in a position a bit more forward than before, which improves the quality of driving, and the additional space released behind the cab allows the installation of a mounted sprinkler, a supplementary seed hopper or fertilizer, or a bar hook towing gears to tow heavy equipment.
The forward-leaning cab structure gives more sense of interior space but also improves visibility and access to the cab, and its almost vertical windshield reduces heat absorption on sunny days.
The glass of the door and the side windows of great length, together with the glazing of the windscreen lower and wide offer an extraordinary visibility from all angles, and the option of fixed window in the ceiling brings more light to the spacious cabin. Opening the three-quarter rear windows gives you natural ventilation that is added to the air conditioning conditioner designed to maintain a comfortable working temperature and quickly eliminate condensation from the windows first thing in the morning. A complete set of working lights maintains visibility around the tractor during the early hours of the morning and at night, and an optional LED package, which includes up to 18 lights in total, offers maximum illumination to tractor operators who work frequently in the darkest hours.
New steering
The Fastrac 8000 series continue with the front suspension of springs and shock absorbers and active suspension of the active rear axle to maintain a uniform ride height and offer the exclusive level of comfort that the operators of Fastrac.
A new hydrostatic steering replaces the previously used servo-assisted mechanical system
The new system is lighter, which is especially noticeable at low speeds with wide tires, and offers the new Rapid Steer selectable feature with fewer butt-to-top turns that make life easier for the operator during head-turning and low-head maneuvers speed.
It supports GPS-guided driving and optional hardware is installed along with Rapid Steer. Fastracs include JCB’s LiveLink telematics system, which provides valuable localization and operation information as well as agile remote maintenance and fault-detection programming in collaboration with JCB distributors and JCB’s own technical support team.
News on tires
BKT has joined Michelin and Trelleborg in developing high speed tires suitable for the weight, speed and power of the JCB Fastrac 8000 tractor
The BKT Agrimax Sirio (70 km / h) rated “E” is a new design in the sizes 540/65 R38 front and 710/70 R38 rear with a sturdy housing that incorporates very flexible side walls. Now available as a factory installed alternative to the Trelleborg TM800 High Speed.
A popular option to enjoy increased traction and flotation is a combination of Michelin’s 650/65 R34 AxioBib and 900/50 R42 MachXbib tires.
