Grupo La Caña: firm commitment to R+D i projects
Grupo La Caña has become a benchmark in the tropical fruit sector in our country with avocado as the most commercialized product and more than 16 million kilos produced and mango, which produces around 1.3 million kilos.
The commitment to the tropics is not something recent in Grupo La Caña. They started working with avocado more than 35 years ago, and they were always clear that it would be a fruit that would gain a good position in the markets. “Now we have the challenge of extending the months of production and, although the Hass variety is currently the most commercialized, we started with the Bacon variety in September, followed by Zutano, passing through Fuerte, Pinkerton, Hass and Reed, at the end of May ”, they comment from the signature.
In relation with the mango, it has made an important niche in markets and homes across Europe to its sweet and exquisite flavor. In La Caña group, they work with their farmers in the search for the varieties that provide the best performance, ensuring high quality, flavor and sweetness levels, while trying to break the seasonality of their production, with varieties grown in greenhouse. “When you read these pages, we will be immersed in our mango campaign, and we will be able to taste the Irwin and Osteen varieties, which will be followed in October by the Kent and Keitt varieties.”
All of this to satisfy an increasingly competitive and demanding market, as well as unstable.
“Competitors from outside of Europe with lax regulation affect the entire sector in general, although our clients trust the quality of our productions,” say Grupo La Caña, where since the beginning of the pandemic the objective has been to guarantee safety and health of its workers, as well as maintaining the service to its farmers and the guarantee of safe supply to customers.
Now, with a view to the future, the Granada company has set itself as strategic objectives the continuous improvement in the service to the farmer, the development of R + D + i projects, the improvement of its production lines in the new ecological center or the growth of Caña Nature, its brand of products based on tomato (salmorejo, gazpacho, tomato) and avocado (guacamoles and avocado pulp), which plays a fundamental role in the growth and expansion of our business group.

It is about participating in a great platform of shared knowledge on agronomic management practices in avocado cultivation, which seeks to expand and initial ends of the cultivation periods, which allow expanding the traditional commercialization of Hass, seeking greater tolerance to diseases, water scarcity, heat, soil salinity and pollination.
