Grain cooperatives provide a production of 23.8 million tons
The sector council Grain of Agri-Food Cooperatives of Spain has made a new estimate of the cereal harvest for this campaign, according to the latest data handled, will reach 23.8 million tonnes compared to 18.6 million tons last season, representing a 28.07% increase.
Barley remains the main cereal produced in our country with 9.5 million tons, followed by wheat with 6.9 million tons and durum wheat with more than one million tons.
By CCAA, stands Castilla y León with 8.9 million tons, followed by Castilla La Mancha with 4.3 million tons and Aragon with 3.4 million tons, regions also has produced the largest increase over the previous season
As highlighted by the president in the cereals sector of this organization, Juan Carlos Bermejo, in view of the situation on the cereals market, both in the EU and globally, it is necessary to carry out a good management that ensures regularity in the supply of cereal in our country throughout the campaign. For getting a proper marketing, the president of cereals sector has remarked the importance of having large typified volumes in order to achieve added value of cereals and meet market demand.
Finally, it stressed that cooperatives with 40% of cereal production are the best marketing tool that farmers have to order and add value to grain sown in Spain.
