Drones to monitor efficient irrigation
The general director of Rural Development and Forestry Policy of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Begoña Nieto, stressed the importance of innovation, knowledge and training to further advance the development and modernization of irrigation. Nieto, who has made these statements at the presentation of the conference “Application of drones in the management of irrigation and fire”, has recognized the need to incorporate, as soon as possible, the results of the R+D+i they have developed management of irrigated areas
On the possibilities offered by the application of new technologies in sectors such as agriculture or forestry, the director has emerged as one of the most recent innovations in the use of drones (aircraft piloted by remote control), focusing on its usefulness, among other actions, to measure the effectiveness of irrigation, control and fire control, measurements of farms or the establishment of fertilizer recommendations.
In this seminar, organized by the Ministry and focussed on the technicians of the autonomous communities that manage irrigation systems, managers of the communities of irrigators and specialists in the management of fire, Nieto has encouraged attendees to continue to deepen in the new technologies and encourage their rapid incorporation into daily farm management as a fundamental tool in making decisions.
In the case of agriculture, Begoña Nieto said that the drones have multiple applications and has pointed, in addition to the above, proper fertilization of crops, aerial spraying of pesticides, or 3D topographical surveys indicated. In this respect he recalled the Spanish legislation that establishes the requirements for both operators drone, as the devices and drivers.
