Angel Villafranca, new president of Cooperatives Agro-alimentary of Spain
Agro-food Cooperatives of Spain in Madrid today held its General Assembly, which has been reelected president Angel Villafranca, president turn Agro-Food Cooperatives of Castilla La Mancha.
Next to him, they will be part of the new president: Juan Rafael Leal Agro-food Cooperatives of Andalusia, as vice 1, and Cyril Arnandis, president of Agri-Food Cooperatives of Valencia as 2nd Vice President. The position of Secretary will occupy Jerónima Bonafé, president of Cooperative Agro-food Balearic Islands, and the Deputy Secretary will be Jose Montes, president of the Galician Association of Agricultural Cooperatives, AGACA.
The new president of Cooperatives Agro-alimentary of Spain will continue, as highlighted Angel Villafranca, “committed to the organization, cooperatives and the food industry”.
Angel Villafranca said that “we must continue to improve our activity, gaining dimension and advancing the value chain, to continue to ensure the permanence of the farmers and the development of agriculture and livestock, which is one of the signs identity of our model, the basis of demographic and territorial balance and economic, environmental and social sustainability of our territory. ”
Policies and food markets do not stop change, competitors are efficient and very demanding customers. Therefore, Villafranca said that “to confront the vicissitudes of this environment, in the absence of market management measures, is the industry itself that has to be organized and that’s where cooperatives should play a key role. Cooperatives will be one of the few tools that will tell farmers and ranchers in this new agro-food context. ”
Cooperative Agro-alimentary of Spain represents 3,838 cooperatives, 1,175,074 members and 96,220 employees. Cooperative enterprises recorded an increase of 2% of its turnover in the last year, from 25,696 to 26,183,000 euros, according to data from Observatory Agrifood Cooperatives (OSCAE) for the year 2014.
