The 11th day of Fertiberia on fertilization for Sustainable Agriculture analyzes the future trends in the sector
The Fertiberia Chair of Agro-environmental Studies celebrates its 11th Conference on Fertilization for Sustainable Agriculture on April 18th, under the heading “SECTOR OF FERTILIZERS, TRENDS OF THE FUTURE”. This event will begin at 9 am in the Assembly Hall of the Higher Technical School of Agronomic, Food and Biosystems Engineering, Agronomists Building, of the Polytechnic University of Madrid. It will deal with a series of relevant issues that will affect multiple sectors related to agricultural activity and the environment.
The big change implied by the CAP 2020 Horizon Reform aims to direct Europe towards a more sustainable agriculture and revitalize rural areas, facilitating the generational changeover. All this in a context of funding still to be defined, given that the European Union faces a great challenge, with the departure of one of its most important members: the United Kingdom.
The Brexit, together with some uncertain macroeconomic perspectives, will condition the policies of the European Union and, especially, the CAP and its budgetary allocation
On the other hand, the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, aligned with Europe, is defining the Spanish Circular Economy Strategy, which, in draft, contains numerous actions, some relating to agriculture and fertilization. The future European regulation on fertilizers, currently under discussion, aims to inculcate the principles of Circular Economy, one of its main objectives being the production of fertilizers from organic and secondary raw materials.
In another order, the European Directive on Emission Ceilings imposes reductions on certain gases, one of which, ammonia, is of agricultural origin. Ammonia is the only pollutant whose emissions are growing compared to 2005, the reference year, and countries have an obligation to adopt measures to achieve the targets set for 2020 and 2030.
With regard to fertilization, the adoption of a series of good environmental practices that will be accompanied by innovative evaluation techniques to solve the problem without jeopardizing the productivity of European agriculture is being studied.
The Fertiberia Chair of Agro-environmental Studies dedicates this seminar to the analysis of some of the factors that will condition the immediate future of agriculture and its activity, such as the industrial, agricultural and environmental sectors.
