Veracruz almonds now have quality certification
Veracruz, a Portuguese almond producer has concluded the GLOBALG.A.P certification process, a globally recognised benchmark. Through this certification Veracruz proves the quality of its almond production and will begin exporting to international markets.
The Veracruz group has an ongoing investment of 50 million euros in the Portuguese region of Beira Baixa and aims to export over 70% of its production. It has a young, multidisciplinary team and aspires to produce, process and distribute the best Mediterranean almonds.
It currently holds an area of 1300 hectares, split between 5 properties in the municipalities of Fundão and Idanha-a-Nova, where it employs the most modern, smart farming techniques with the objective of making efficient use of all resources. “It gives us great satisfaction to have concluded this certification process. We produce Mediterranean varieties of almonds in our almond groves in Idanha-a-Nova and in Fundão, using farming practices based on cutting-edge technology, enabling us to monitor the entire production. We are certifying our production and GLOBALGAP is the first of many certifications we intend to attain”, says David Carvalho, CEO and co-founder of Veracruz.
This certification system demonstrates food safety and production sustainability and covers the complete productive route of the almonds, from field to fork. In addition, it establishes strict farming best practices and serves as a global reference system for other existing standards.
