Top level speakers to discuss the impact of ‘Brexit’ in the Andalusian agro-food sector
High-level speakers as Tomas Garcia Azcarate, researcher at the Institute of Economics, Geography and Demography of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), and Professor of Economics at the University of Sevilla, Jose Carlos Diez, will give content to a day in which will discuss the effects of ‘Brexit’ in the Andalusian agro-food sector. Will take place on Monday, July 25, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, in collaboration with the Cajasol Foundation, based in Seville will host this event.
This meeting, which is open to all citizens interested in learning more about the consequences of this situation in the economy of the Autonomous Community, will be inaugurated by the Minister Carmen Ortiz. This initiative joins other actions launched by the Government of Andalusia, among which the creation of a working group to analyze the consequences of the withdrawal process UK from EU and, within the powers of the Community Autonomous, propose measures that minimized. In addition to the Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development, this group is formed by the ministries of Economy and Knowledge; Employment, Business and Commerce; and Tourism and Sports.
Similarly, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Rural Development is working on a study on the impact of Brexit Andalusian food sector, which analyzes the possible effects on areas such as foreign trade and phytosanitary or veterinary regulations.
Fourth destination of Andalusian food exports
The UK is the fourth largest agri-food client Andalusia. In 2015, they were exported to this country and Andalusian food beverages worth about 870 million euros (10% of total sales Andalusian agrifood abroad).
Especially highlights the export of horticultural products, which account for most of this amount with sales of 622 million euros. UK is the main customer of Andalusia strawberries and other red fruits (more than 254 million euros in exports last year) and Andalusian wine (more than 38 million euros in 2015), especially the Jerez.
