The Ministry of Agriculture and the city of Alicante cooperate in controlling Marine Reserve of Tabarca
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, through the Secretariat General of Fisheries, and the city of Alicante, have signed a second extension of the cooperation agreement signed by both institutions to cooperate in controlling activities of the Marine Reserve Tabarca Island.
The Convention, signed in 2007 to share information and technical means to improve the surveillance of the Marine Reserve, was the subject of an initial extension in 2011 because it was found the good results achieved with the collaboration of both parties. This has led to expand cooperation by a second extension agreement, which will run until 2019.
Marine reserve Tabarca
Marine Reserve Tabarca, first of those created in Spain, is one of the ten that make up the Network of Marine Reserves in Spain. Fisheries protection are figures that have emerged as a prime element for the protection and regeneration of fisheries resources and habitats they contain, and as a successful experience in the management of artisanal fisheries internationally recognized. This is demonstrated by the many requests received by the General Secretariat of Fisheries establishment of new marine reserves in Spain.
Changes in land use in the sea, knowledge and management experience acquired by the General Secretariat of Fisheries since the establishment of the marine reserve of Tabarca have made in the model of management and regulation of Reserves Marinas and conditioning aspects of environmental protection are integrated. It has also led to plans for management of marine reserves to be updated to incorporate activities like recreational fishing and recreational diving, so that they are conducted in a manner consistent with the purpose of fisheries protection.
