The fisheries agreement between the EU and Mauritania not convince the Spanish fishing sector

The new fisheries protocol was signed in the capital of Mauritania, Nouakchott, for the next four years for failing to include technical improvements in the status of shellfish and trawlers and longliners.
As stated by Spanish Fisheries Confederation (CEPESCA), although some technical improvements have been achieved in various types of fishing, the industry had made a number of requests, duly argued, in particular for the categories of shellfish and target trawlers and longlinersdemersal species, which could have improved the activity and viability of Spanish fishermen.
Also, CEPESCA deeply regrets that, once again, the cephalopod fleet has been excluded from the agreement, even though the Spanish owners had submitted a very reasonable alternative proposal to the assumption that Mauritanians do not want, for political reasons, to grant access to surplus octopus EU fleet. Thus, Mauritanians have not accepted now include a new category for demersal trawl freezer, which are underexploited according to recent scientific reports.
The agreement will allow the fleet of our country return to Mauritanian fishing grounds from approximately the month of December, following the mandatory procedure which must be followed in the EU for the provisional application is adopted.
