Spain: FIMART focuses on the application of technological innovation to rural areas
The Palacio de la Merced, home to the Council of Córdoba, welcomes from 10 to 12 November, the second edition of “Smart Meetings for Rural Innovation” FIMART 2015, an event promoted by the Provincial Consortium for Economic Development organized by Rurápolis. The technical seminars will relate to the application of innovation and technology to rural areas and, in particular, companies in the agrifood value chain. The event provides access to specialists and suppliers in areas such as the Internet of Things, Big Data applied to agriculture, sensing or unmanned flight, etc.
This forum tech companies in rural areas had its first edition with the support of relevant institutions (Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment, Government of Andalusia, ASAJA, University of Cordoba, etc) and attracted thousands of visitors ( farmers, ranchers and agribusiness), allowing the exchange of experiences and development of projects in the framework of its technical cooperation meetings and conferences.
The president of the Provincial Consortium of Economic Development, Ana Carrillo, stressed that the Council of Cordoba “commitment to the continuity of this event which puts Córdoba in a reference in the generation and dissemination of knowledge for the improvement of the rural world” .
The also vice president of the provincial institution noted that “although throughout the year various fairs for agriculture and livestock are held, there is no talk of applying new technologies in the field and this is a sector pioneer, Cordoba has to continue strengthening, because we speak of offering intelligent solutions for the field.”
Rurápolis, as in 2014, it is the organization responsible for coordinating this second edition of the event which will include, again, a technical conference, stands of products and services, bilateral business meetings, etc.
Miguel Angel Miller, managing partner of Rurápolis and event coordinator, stressed that FIMART “is a unique event because there is nothing like it in the rest of Spain and few in Europe. The rural world is facing major challenges requiring advanced solutions for rural areas, enabling them to be competitive in a fast-changing environment. ”
Therefore, one of the main objectives of FIMART 2015 is to discuss the contribution of technology to meet the great challenges facing humanity faces 2050, according to the Rio +20. It also aims to improve the competitiveness of agro-industry and promote the development of smart rural areas.
The technical seminars will relate to the application of innovation and technology to rural areas and, in particular, companies in the agrifood value chain. In addition, topics such as the application of innovation to gastronomy, innovation to improve the marketing and use of robotics and drones in rural areas will be discussed.
In bilateral meetings a concretes agendas for the exchange and development of innovative projects between companies will continue. In addition, access to specialists and suppliers in areas such as the Internet of Things will be facilitated, Big data applied to agriculture, sensing or unmanned flight, etc.
