Recipes lifetime to promote the consumption of fruits and vegetables among young
Last Tuesday, June 28th, took place in the Mercado de la Paz, the presentation of the recipes book: Pantry: Sweet and salty, an initiative in which the Foundation Fruits de Ponent and the Association “5 a Day” join efforts to strengthen consumption of fruits and vegetables among children and young people.
The Pantry: Sweet and salty, mentored by chef Ramon Freixa, is a project inspired by the recipes developed by the members of the Cooperative Fruits Group Ponent (former female farmers and mothers), to transmit from generation to generation their passion and knowledge for the kitchen of life, which processes fruits and vegetables left over the field to fill the pantry. Recipes of life, which are now the basis of existing recipes.
With this recipes book Fruits de Ponent and “5 a Day” seek to promote healthy eating habits as encourage eating more fruits and vegetables, through recipes that take advantage of all the flavor and potential of these products. Indeed, Spain is one of the EU countries in which the consumption of these foods must increase significantly, since inadequate nutrition has become cause of death of 1.7 million people annually, representing 3% mortality.
The Association “5 a day” that lists the basic nutritional advice in this book, continuously performs many actions in schools, promotions, conferences, etc and are defined as transmitters message “at least 5 fruits and vegetables, the best choice for health”. Fruits and vegetables are staples in healthy eating and regular consumption has been associated with a lower risk of disease and mortality.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends a daily intake of at least 600 grams of fruit and vegetables, which is covered with 5 servings of fruit and vegetables. In this recipe, include tips and recommendations for the proper handling of fruits and vegetables at home, as well as simple recipes of high nutritional value, so that the intake of these foods is very tasty.
