Organic food “continues to see unstoppable growth in Spain”
Organic agriculture in Spain is booming and remains one of the top markets for organic in the world. According to Ecovalia’s recent Annual Report, organic food and farming in Spain grew by 7% in 2019 – which now expands over a total of 2,246,475 hectares. And Impressively, nearly 10% (9.7%) of Spain’s productive farmland is under organic systems.
Facilitating this strong growth and making organic more widely available – Organic Food Iberia (and Eco Living Iberia) will feature over 600 leading organic and eco-living companies to around 7000 distributors, wholesalers, buyers and specialised retailers, when it returns to Ifema-Feria de Madrid on 3-4 June.
The show is perfectly timed to become one of the most important natural and organic trade events in the world – as just weeks ago Álvaro Barrera, president of Ecovalia (a lead supporter of the show), confirms that the organic sector “continues to see unstoppable growth”.
“In 2018 there was an increase in the volume of the market worldwide, which is valued at 97,000 million Euros and land dedicated to organic grew by 19.9%, above 70 million hectares. This new data confirms the sector is in good health. This improvement is based on the work behind our country’s organic production, and the added value it represents,” says Barrera.
The best of organic in Spain
The widely anticipated second edition of Organic Food Iberia will feature regional pavilions from Andalucía, Madrid, Navarra & La Rioja – showcasing the best organic products Spain has to offer. Here companies will be showcasing their quality ranges of organic vegetables, fruits, packaged goods, bakery goods, juices, wine, meats, sauces, condiments, cheeses (and more).
Other Spanish exhibitors to see include Soria Natural, Biográn, Aneto, Santiveri, Hispania Organics, Sol Natural, Delicious & Sons, and Be Plus, among other international companies.
Commenting on the importance of Ecovalia’s involvement with Organic Food Iberia fair, Álvaro Barrera says:
“Many of our associates no longer travel to international fairs, because the news, the trends, the knowledge that was previously obtained at European fairs is at Organic Food Iberia. Events such as Biofach in Germany are good for debate, knowledge and updates with political authorities, but now we have all that here in Spain. OFI is a necessary meeting point, not only for direct sales, but for commercial and knowledge exchange of key industry research reports, which we want to share more of this year.”
