Crespo calls to defend the Andalusian agricultural sector against attacks in Europe
The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development, Carmen Crespo, called on Thursday to defend the quality and sustainability of the Andalusian agricultural sector “in the face of attacks in Europe from interested lobbies that damage the image of the sector”, during the presentation of the Alliance for Sustainable Agriculture (ALAS) that brings together thousands of farmers, ranchers, cooperatives and agricultural exporters, through the main professional organizations in the sector, and headed by the Vice President of Asaja Nacional, Pedro Gallardo.
Crespo has offered all the support of the Government of Juanma Moreno to this initiative “that underlines the commitment of the agricultural sector for sustainable production in the social, economic and environmental field.” “Andalusia is an international agri-food reference and, therefore, this project deserves all the support of the Board because it promotes competitiveness, innovation and sustainable production increasingly demanded by consumers,” he said.
In this regard, the Minister has stressed that “we must work together in Europe” to address the lobbies “that are saying that our agriculture is not sustainable” and “export the real image of sustainability of the Andalusian agricultural sector” . “It is time to do justice with a sector that brings great economic, social and environmental benefits, as well as to transfer to consumers that in Andalusia is being cultivated with sustainability and that, in addition, our farms are extraordinary CO2 sinks”, He has remarked.
Crespo has stressed the need to highlight the importance of this strategic sector “when precisely now the green architecture of the CAP post 2020 is being discussed in Europe, which will be fundamental for the future of the Andalusian community.” In this regard, the counselor has insisted that we must continue to defend “a strong CAP, that maintains the budget and that Andalusia has an agriculture that involves a large carbon dioxide sink and helps reduce the impact of change climate and desertification ”.
Finally, the head of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Sustainable Development has encouraged the agricultural sector to actively collaborate in the Circular Economy Law that is being developed by the Andalusian Government, “a regulation that will have as maximum that the waste It has to become an opportunity and not a problem. ”
