Chile and Ecuador sign cooperation agreement in the areas of fisheries and aquaculture
The signing, which took place in the premises of the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture in Valparaiso, requires the parties to promote mutual cooperation and facilitate contact in order to discuss and address any topic that is relevant in the context of its responsibility for fisheries and aquaculture, in accordance with the laws, national regulations and existing international agreements between the two countries.
In addition, the memorandum includes cooperation in health, environmental and socio-economic matters with an emphasis on improving the management of public policies, legislation, combating illegal fishing and unreported fishing and promoting human consumption of marine resources.
The Súnico Secretary praised the agreement saying that “Ecuador maintain a common interest and we must see how the sustainable fisheries and aquaculture activities and we can project into the future for the benefit of coastal communities and our countries. Ecuador has an important fishing and aquaculture tradition, with emblematic management resources such as tuna and shrimp which we can learn a lot. ”

Both authorities will meet again at the next meeting of the Regional Fisheries Organisation for the South Pacific to be held next January in the city of Valdivia, where they said the further deepening of relations and the scope of this bilateral agreement.
