The next edition of the International Fair of Agricultural Machinery of Zaragoza (FIMA), which will be held on 19th, 20th and 21th February, will host the IV National Forum of Rural Development, organized by the Official College of Agricultural Engineers of Aragon, Navarra and the Basque Country and the National Rural Network, and co-financed through the EAFRD (European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development). The professionalization of the agrifood sector will be the main event in an event whose content is structured in three strategic areas: irrigation, precision agriculture and fertilization and plant protection.

To delve into all these issues will have an expert in the field and practical cases on new technologies and developments applied in the sector. The inaugural address, which will take place on Monday, February 19th at 7:00 pm at the Bantierra Headquarters, will be the responsibility of Manuel Lainez, director of the National Institute of Agricultural and Food Research and Technology (INIA), who will reflect on the ” technological innovation and competitiveness in the agri-food sector “.

On the 20th and 21st in the Zaragoza Fair Hall, the rest of the presentations and practical cases will take place. On Tuesday, February 20th will start with the paper “towards a more intelligent agriculture, a more sustainable agriculture” by Roberto García, president of the Cajamar Foundation. The precision agriculture block will feature the expert Alexandre Escolá, researcher at the University of Lleida, whose paper has the title “precision agriculture and technological solutions”. The case studies on precision agriculture will be Naandan (Comenge Irrigation), Serfica, Agricolum, Fede, Agrimes and Agrostream.

On Wednesday 21st, Enrique Playán, research professor of the CSIC, will be in charge of giving the presentation on irrigation in which will delve into the
“Irrigation technologies to feed society and have a future in the rural world”. In the experiences section, there will be the Ministry of
Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment (SIAR APP), the Irrigation Community of Montesnegros, the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Intiasa, Grupo Virto and Riegos del Alto Aragón. The fertilization and plant protection block will feature Javier Brañas, director of R + D + i of Fertiberia, who will present the “trends in fertilization and plant protection”. The cases that will be exposed will be Fertinagro Biotech of the Tervalis Group, Guilanya Pérez (Topcon), Congelados de Navarra (Agropal), Biosanz and Seipasa.

Attendance at the 4th National Forum on Rural Development, which will be broadcast live on the Internet, is free, upon registration through the web www.coiaanpv.org, and includes entry to FIMA

This event also has the support of the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, the Department of Rural Development and Sustainability of the Government of Aragon, the FIMA, as well as the Alianza Agroalimentaria Aragonesa and other private companies.
