Spain will have 600 additional tonnes of anchovy fishing quota in ICES zone IXa, which includes the waters between Finisterre and the border with Portugal, in addition to the fishing grounds of the Gulf of Cadiz, thanks to the agreement entered into by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment with the government of Portugal.

This new quota is divided between two fleets, the purse of the Gulf of Cadiz and the Galician fleet of siege, in accordance with the distribution percentages that each one of them.

This increase joins that Spain had succeeded in its initial share, after the Council of Ministers last December. Thus, the share of IXa Spain anchovy for 2015 is at this time of 5,218 tons.

However, given the high socio-economic dependence of both fleets of anchovy, the government continues talks with Portugal to try to achieve further increases in quota, so that it can reach levels which ordered the Spanish fleet in 2014 . So it can guarantee the activity of the same this year, especially in the summer months, which are often concentrated the most sacks.
