From October 7 to 10, 2025, Clermont-Ferrand, in the heart of Europe’s largest livestock region, will host the 34th edition of SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE, one of the world’s leading international trade shows dedicated to livestock farming and sustainable agriculture.
Enterview Emily AUBERT. International & Digital Development Manager
With more than 1,750 exhibitors, 120,000 expected professional visitors — including over 6,000 international attendees from 96 countries — and over 2,000 high-value genetic animals in competition, the SOMMET continues its ascent as a key platform for professionals in the sector.
According to the preliminary figures, SOMMET keeps growing, and a significant increase in exhibitors and international visitors is expected.
How do you interpret this upward trend? Are the desired goals being achieved?
The fair’s constant growth — in both exhibitor numbers and international visitors — reflects the central role SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE plays on the global agricultural scene. “This trend confirms we are meeting our goals of consolidating the event as a reference point for the livestock sector,” explains Emily AUBERT. “Our priority is to keep expanding its international reach, offer a high-quality experience, and foster exchanges between professionals, companies, institutions, and innovation centers.”
This international positioning translates into a comprehensive offering: animal genetics, health, feed, agricultural machinery, renewable energy, technical services, and digital innovation… the entire ecosystem of professional livestock farming is represented in one place.
One of the strengths of this international event is the animal showcases and competitions, highlighting genetics and innovation, including farm visits in the region. What are the main attractions this year?
One of the major highlights of SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE is the animal competitions and showcases, which emphasize the excellence of French genetics. In 2025, visitors can attend the National Charolais Breed Competition, renowned worldwide for its beef quality, as well as competitions for the Simmental and Montbéliarde breeds, known for both dairy and meat performance. Other iconic breeds such as Limousin, Salers, Blonde d’Aquitaine, Angus, Hereford, Holstein, and Texel will also be featured.
Another strong point is the 35 technical visits to regional livestock farms a

nd agribusinesses, specially organized for international visitors. Guided by experts and available in multiple languages, these visits provide a unique opportunity to explore breeding practices, genetic selection, cheese production, cattle exports, and more — connecting technical knowledge with real-world application.
The event is also known for its wide range of conferences addressing key topics for the agricultural sector. What subjects will take center stage?
SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE 2025 will feature an ambitious program of over 140 conferences and roundtables focusing on current challenges in the agricultural sector. Key topics will include:
• Agriculture’s adaptation to climate change
• Transition to more sustainable systems
• Generational renewal in rural areas
• Animal welfare
• Digitalization and new technologies in livestock farming
One of the most anticipated moments will be a keynote by Jean-Marc Jancovici, French expert on energy and the environment, and co-founder of the think tank The Shift Project. His talk will offer a strategic outlook on the climate future of European agriculture.
The guest country of honor will be Morocco. What inspired this choice?

Every year, SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE honors a nation to strengthen international cooperation. This year, the guest of honor is Morocco, chosen for the dynamism of its agricultural and livestock sector and its commitment to building sustainable strategic alliances with Europe. A significant Moroccan institutional and business delegation is expected, aiming to share experiences, create business opportunities, and work together on global food and climate challenges. To conclude, what does the 2025 edition of SOMMET offer to Spanish agricultural professionals, and how has the event been received by visitors from Spain?
Spain has historically been one of the best-represented countries at SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE. Each year, a growing number of Spanish professionals — farmers, technicians, researchers, and entrepreneurs — travel to Clermont-Ferrand to discover the latest livestock innovations and connect with industry leaders.
For Spanish visitors, the 2025 edition will offer numerous benefits: free admission, VIP reception, assistance in Spanish, guided tours, and networking areas dedicated to international relations. The International Club will facilitate business contacts with French and international exhibitors.
“For Spanish agricultural professionals, SOMMET is not just a fair, but a hub of opportunities, alliances, and learning,” says Emily Aubert. “Our strategic location — midway between Spain and Central Europe — makes access easier and enhances the appeal of this unique event.”
An in-person event… and a digital one too
Finally, SOMMET DE L’ÉLEVAGE extends beyond the four days of the physical event. Its digital platform, Le Comptoir des Éleveurs, allows the experience to continue year-round with exclusive video content, a professional community space, and a specialized marketplace.
