The Region of Murcia’s table grape sector continues to gain ground in international markets and reached a new export record in 2025, with foreign sales totalling €292.46 million, representing 19% growth compared to the previous year, when exports amounted to €245.94 million.
The regional minister for Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Joaquín Buendía, highlighted that “behind these figures there is a sector committed to quality, innovation and the opening of new markets, which has succeeded in positioning Murcian grapes as a benchmark product in Europe and increasingly in more international destinations.”
Europe remains the main destination for table grapes from the Region of Murcia. Germany continues as the leading market, with exports valued at €67.42 million in 2025, while the United Kingdom has already become the second destination, reaching €56.28 million after recording 109% growth compared to the previous year.
Other consolidated European markets also show notable increases, such as France, where sales reached €24.04 million, up 39%, and Portugal, with €18.32 million and 28% growth. Meanwhile, exports to the Netherlands grew by 11%, reaching €34.13 million.
The Region of Murcia is Europe’s leading producer of seedless table grapes and accounts for more than 90% of Spain’s table grape production, with globally recognised producing and marketing companies.
In 2025, the regional area devoted to the crop reached 7,452 hectares, with production totalling 236,705 tonnes, consolidating the importance of this crop within the Region’s agri‑food and export sector.
Investment in research and innovation is another factor explaining the international competitiveness of regional table grapes. The Murcian Institute for Agricultural and Environmental Research and Development (IMIDA), in collaboration with the Murcian company ITUM, has developed 20 new seedless table grape varieties.
“The varieties developed in the Region of Murcia are an example of how research and collaboration between the scientific field and the productive sector translate into new opportunities for our farmers and companies,” the minister explained.
Murcia, host of the XI International Table Grape Symposium
In this context of growth and international expansion, the Region of Murcia will host the XI International Table Grape Symposium from 28 September to 2 October. The event will bring together hundreds of scientists, breeders, producers and international marketers.
“Having this international symposium take place in the city of Murcia is recognition of the leadership we have achieved and an opportunity to continue projecting our agriculture and our technology to the world,” Buendía concluded.
