According to data from the International Olive Council (IOC) compiled by the European Commission, global production will fall by 3% compared to 2024/25, reaching 3.48 million tonnes.
The 2025/26 season is progressing with olive oil production in the European Union remaining practically stable compared to the previous year, in a context marked by declining output in third countries, rising imports and exports, and a general moderation in prices. These trends are reflected in the latest reports published by the European Commission through the Olive Oil and Table Olives Market Observatory and the DG AGRI Olive Oil Dashboard (updated on 26 March 2026).
Global production declines, but remains above average
According to IOC data compiled by the Commission, global production will fall by 3% compared to 2024/25, reaching 3.48 million tonnes, although it remains 13% above the five‑year average. The decline is concentrated in non‑EU countries, whose production drops by 5%, with sharp contrasts: Tunisia (+32%) and Morocco (+78%) show strong growth, while Turkey falls by 43%.
In the EU, production shows minimal variation (–1%), with Spain (–3%), Italy (+31%), Greece (–6%) and Portugal (–15%) recording the main changes.
Foreign trade: imports and exports on the rise
Eurostat/COMEXT data included in the Commission’s report show that between October and January, extra‑EU imports increased by 15%, driven by a 33.8% rise in Tunisian olive oil, which now accounts for 81% of total imports. Significant increases are also seen from Morocco (+271%) and Peru (+1,220%).
Extra‑EU exports also grew (+11.6%), with notable increases to Brazil (+48%) and China (+159%). The United States remains the main destination, although with a slight decline (–6.3%).
Prices: stability in extra virgin and declines in lampante
The DG AGRI Dashboard confirms that extra virgin olive oil prices have stabilized compared to the previous year:
- Spain: €4.35–4.40/kg
- Italy: €6.7/kg
- Greece: €4.3/kg
Lampante prices, however, are below the five‑year average in all countries:
- Spain: €3.48/kg
- Italy: €3.01/kg
- Greece: €2.32/kg
The Commission also highlights a widening price gap between organic and conventional olive oil, especially in Italy, where it reaches 23%.
Stocks: levels close to the average
The EU balance sheet prepared by DG AGRI places ending stocks at 420,000 tonnes, a level very close to the five‑year average.
Table olives: stable production and weaker foreign trade
According to the International Olive Council and European Commission data, global table olive production will fall by 10% compared to the previous season, although it remains within average levels. In the EU, production is around the average, with Spain down 6%, while Greece (+2%), Italy (–3%) and Portugal (+6%) show moderate variations.
In foreign trade, extra‑EU imports fall to 64,000 tonnes, while exports also decline slightly, according to Eurostat/COMEXT.
Producer prices, collected by Member States and published by the Commission, show significant dispersion:
- Spain: €113.57/100 kg (–21%)
- Italy: €152.28/100 kg (–15.6%)
- Greece: €160.73/100 kg (+27.9%)
- Portugal: €85.20/100 kg (–4.3%)
