John Deere is adding three new high-horsepower tractor models to its 8R and 8RX series, with rated engine powers of 440 hp, 490 hp and 540 hp. The models are designed for the demands of heavy pulling and long working days typical of large European farms. All models are equipped with the 13.6-litre JD14 engine, capable of delivering up to 634 hp through the Peak Power Intelligent Power Management (PP IPM) system. This makes the top-of-the-range 8R/8RX 540 the most powerful standard-design tractor in the world.

‘The new range expands the 8 Series’ ability to support large farms focused on continuously optimising their operations: achieving greater productivity with fewer, more reliable machines, while maintaining the flexibility of a standard tractor,’ says Marcus Luchmann, Go-to-Market Manager for Tractors over 150 hp in Europe and CIS. ‘It also meets the needs of expanding family farms looking to manage more hectares with the same workforce.’

Superior traction and power for demanding tillage applications

The JD14 engine in the high-power range of the 8 Series delivers up to 2,695 Nm of maximum torque and a constant power range between 1,450 and 1,900 rpm. PP GIP provides an additional 40 hp in the main engine speed range up to 1,600 rpm, delivering extra power in demanding high-load applications for PTO, electrically or hydraulically driven implements.

The new 8R models can be fitted with tyres up to 2.30 m at the rear and 1.85 m at the front. Both single and dual wheel configurations, including dual front wheels up to 710 mm wide, can be fitted with John Deere’s Central Tyre Inflation System (CTIS), which automatically adjusts pressure at any speed and temperature. Its simplified design allows reinforced sealing components to be integrated into the axle hub, covered by the PowerGardâ„¢ protection plan.

The new 8RX models use an updated four-track rubber system with redesigned undercarriages and Soucy CustomFit™ P series tracks. Their low-tension design reduces stress and extends service life. Depending on the configuration, the rubber band system offers a contact area of up to 4.87 m² and ground pressures of only 0.4 kg/cm², minimising soil compaction.

The eAutoPowrâ„¢ continuously variable transmission is standard on all new 8R/8RX models. The system uses an electromechanical design that replaces hydrostatic components with maintenance-free electric motors and generators, improving energy flow efficiency by up to 8%* compared to conventional hydrostatic solutions.

The new Heavy-Duty Independent Front Suspension (HD ILS) ensures efficient power transfer and a turning radius of approximately 7 metres. The system automatically adjusts the suspension according to the load and allows manual adjustment, offering a more comfortable and personalised driving experience.

Fuel tanks of 936 litres on 8R models and up to 1,123 litres on 8RX models allow for extended working days, with up to 14 hours of operation at 85% load, eliminating refuelling stops during 12-hour shifts.

Class-leading cab and operator environment

The CommandView™ 4 cab is equipped with a redesigned CommandARM™ with an integrated additional display, allowing seat settings to be saved and the cab environment to be customised, including radio, air conditioning and telephone. The new CommandARM™ includes two joystick options: CommandX Plus for basic operation and CommandX Pro for advanced control. Both offer greater configurability, integrating phone and infotainment system control, new G5Plus monitor navigation and advanced precision farming features. Additional enhancements include wireless phone charging, 330° front windscreen wipers, right-door windscreen wipers, push-button start with PIN code protection and power door lock.

The CommandViewâ„¢ 4 Plus cab on the new high-horsepower 8RX models offers 15% more legroom and a 20% larger panoramic field of view compared to the standard 8R Series cab. Premium and Ultimate seats feature on-screen adjustments, independent electric CommandARMâ„¢ positioning (forward/backward and up/down) and full-width cushion control. The Ultimate seat features superior ventilation that draws air from the cab for greater cooling and comfort.

All new 8R and 8RX models come standard with the StarFireâ„¢ 7500 receiver, CommandCenterâ„¢ G5Plus display and JDLinkâ„¢ connectivity. With flexible licensing, operators can access supervised autonomy features to improve work quality and reduce operational errors. AutoPathâ„¢ generates guidance plans for the entire field, AutoTracâ„¢ Turn Automation ensures precise turns, and Implement Guidance reduces implement drift. AutoTracâ„¢ Implement Guidance in reverse enables precise manoeuvres even with wide implements. Field data exchange and automatic data transfer to Operations Centreâ„¢ ensure coordination without manual exchanges.

‘Thanks to their digital control architecture without position indication, the high-powered 8R/RX tractors are ready to incorporate future autonomy components,’ explains Marcus Luchmann.

Exceptional versatility in the 600 hp segment

The high-power range of the 8 Series offers pulling power comparable to an articulated tractor, while maintaining the versatility of a standard model. With up to 418 l/min of hydraulic flow, large seed drills are easily driven. The tractor can be optionally equipped with a Category 5 drawbar and double-acting rear hitch with up to 10.8 t capacity at 610 mm, while two new double-acting front hitch options offer up to 4.8 t. Combined with a 130 kW front PTO, the new 8R and 8RX can power all types of heavy implements, from large-scale brush cutters to PTO-driven silage spreaders. The rear PTO Type 4 with speeds of 1000, 1000E and 1300, and up to 548 hp of maximum power in stationary applications, provides additional power for demanding tasks such as wood chipping or road milling.

The new 8R/8RX can be optionally equipped with a Jake Brake engine brake with up to 300 kW of braking power. When activated, it responds automatically when the actual speed differs from the selected speed, providing smooth deceleration with a single pedal and protecting the main brake.

Three operating modes allow you to adapt the behaviour of the engine and transmission:

ECO: prioritises efficiency and comfort with lower revs, ideal for transport or light work.

STANDARD: balance between power, efficiency and response for most tasks.

MAX: maximum power and fast response for heavy-duty applications.

Highly efficient performance on the road and in transport

Transport speeds of 60 km/h at 1,440 rpm or 50 km/h at 1,200 rpm are available on four-wheel versions, depending on market regulations. The new ILS suspension system automatically adjusts the stiffness of the front axle suspension during cornering and high speed, reducing roll and pitch when braking. Reactive steering provides precise, car-like handling with automatic steering wheel return and improved straight-line control. It also incorporates variable ratio steering, reducing steering wheel turns at higher speeds, and adjustments to centre return and steering wheel resistance, adapting the system to the operator’s preferences.

Optimisation concept for large farms With more innovations planned throughout 2026 and the incorporation of features from high-horsepower models into the current 8R/RX/RT series, John Deere will gradually introduce its optimisation concept for large farms. This approach combines powerful machinery, advanced automation, and connected fleet management to help large farms increase productivity with less labour, reduce costs per hectare, and maximise uptime.
