EU: Searching for new markets for beef

Although between 2013 and 2014 there was an increase in meat exports from the EU (+ 23% 559 321 t), the Beef Management Committee of the European Commission has set a goal of eliminating open new markets possible trade barriers. The selected countries include Brazil, China, Turkey, USA and Canada.

The EU will develop a trading strategy and meetings with the authorities of these countries and estimated what the main trade barriers that some of them down.
In the same vein, Jean Pierre Fleury, general secretary of the working group of beef cattle Copa-Cogeca, has asked the European Commission to take urgent measures in order to improve the situation in the market for this type of meat in the European Union and the need to find an outlet for the products.

According to the Commission, imports of beef from the EU have dropped by 13.6% in the month of January 2015 compared to the data of 2014, amounting to 23,386 t. Against this, exports grew by 19% to 40,000 t. This was due to increased demand from countries like Lebanon with 4,691 t, 1,367 Algeria and Hong Kong with 5,414 t. Brazil remains the country from which the EU imports beef with 9,593 t in January, 27.7% less than in January 2014. Against this, Uruguay, the second largest supplier, has exported 3,515 t (+2.3%).
